So lj is really behind. To summarise:
I have a new job. It's still at the same place, but now I'm down in the labs doing testing. It also means I'm working 5 days a week and I do miss the extra day off that I used to have. How do I get everything done now?

Anyway, I have a few weeks to get up to speed in fridge testing. This has been slightly complicated by a NATA inspection this week and a lot of extra work pertaining to a certain fridge that has been in the news recently (ok - before Easter, but it's still recent from my point of view).

I'm actually quite enjoying the change. There's a lot to do and to organise, but it's a different challenge and I do like working in the laboratory. I guess that's why I did science in the first place. I just wish the place hadn't been inhabited by TALL men for the last umpty-ump years. There's an amazing amount of stuff that requires a stepladder.

I'll update on the house in a specific post, but, of course, that's taking up time as well.

In addition, I've been doing consultant work occasionally and that recently saw me up in Brisbane for a day and I'll be in Canberra this Friday. Only flying visits - literally for Brisbane - so I won't be able to catch up with anyone this time. I was hoping to have had the weekend to visit with my parents and maybe socialise a bit, but it's the same weekend as May Crown and I'm doing Lists, so need to be there bright and early on Saturday morning.

I just got a new (almost) MacBook Air in the staff sale. It's very nice. I now have computing power available for all situations - desktop, laptop and phone. Now to decide what information needs to be on all of them.

And last week I spent at training in the city. Lead Auditor - Quality management Systems. Getting the paper qualifications for what I've already been doing. The training was very good, but very intense. Taking into account that I also had to get up early enough to get into the city by train for a 9 am start, it was pretty exhausting. At least the weather was good and I didn't have to walk to or from the station in the rain.

Last Monday Styvyn found a couple of interesting looking jobs in his Seek mail, so he thought he'd apply for them.
On Tuesday both he got called for initial interviews for both of them and had these on Wednesday. Anyway, by Friday he'd been offered one of the jobs. It was, in fact, the one he preferred as it's in Parramatta (10 minutes by train rather than the hour or so that he's got at the moment). Not only was that a quick decision, but they want him to start next Monday!

So, he's accepted the job and handed in his notice at the current one. But it does present us with a problem regarding Festival. He might not be able to get the time off that he was going to have. It may mean that we only go down Friday and return Monday - much truncated from our plans of Wednesday to Tuesday. Also, we'd be taking much less down with us etc. We'll know more this coming Monday when we find out what's actually happening.

Now I have two sets of festival plans to think about.

In other job related stuff. Today my work had an 'Offsite Day' in which all the staff get together and we discuss/workshop/brainstorm on a theme. We've had one each year for the past 4 years. This time the theme was Corporate Social Responsibility. I like that the message that came through was that we have to make sure our own house is in order before we can criticise others (ok, unless they're really shonky). Of course, CSR will always just mean sugar to some of us.

Yes, it's late and I'm not feeling really well. Hope this post makes some kind of sense.
