List mistressing
Oct. 7th, 2004 02:03 pmWoohoo! Last night was the Stowe monthly tourney and my first time as mistress of the lists. I was supposed to be only learning, but the previous list mistress decided that I seemed to know what I was doing and left me to it.
usually the tourney is pretty small so we do it as a round robin, but there were 10 fighters in the list this time (not that many, but too many if you want to get a result before midnight) so we did single kill/double elimination. (see explanation ( here ) )
This is slightly more complicated than a round robin, but gets through the lists more quickly. However, the previous LM (List Mistress) had very little experience in them so I was basically winging it. Fortunately, I seem to have the kind of brain that can cope with that kind of thing. I kept surprising the herald by having the draw for each round completed in about 1/3 the time he expected. Everything seemed to run pretty smoothly, no one got to fight someone more than once until the final round (where it can't be helped). And at the end of it all, I got a cheer! (ok, so they did't want to discourage me on my first night).
So yes, I had fun. It gives me something to do on tourney night when I want to watch Styvyn fighting anyway and I get to learn which fighters are which... or at least I will eventually.
Oh, and Styvyn won the tourney. (And no, the LM can't do anything to affect (or even effect) that.
