The Holiday – Day 3, 4 and 5.
Aug. 11th, 2005 01:59 pmTime to catch up on this properly before it melts into the mists of memory.
Day 3
This was the day of Neil Gaiman’s GoH talk. And very good it was too. It included some readings from his new novel Anansi Boys (not out just yet) and the industry promos for the movie, Mirrormask (he did the story, McKeane did the visuals). There is considerable doubt that Mirrormask will be released in Australia, so a petition was got together to send to Sony.
That evening was the Maskobalo. We got dressed up and went to see and be seen. I wore my dark maroon fishtail skirt with the black and silver corset and my platinum blonde wig. Styvyn wore his leather hose with codpiece, leather jacket and leather mask. We had our photos taken lots – I really must try and get hold of some of them.
Said brief words to Mr. Gaiman – managed not to lose cool.
After a bit of dancing (only a bit because my toe was still very painful) we went back up to our room, where there was already a party – albeit a small one. Most of the time it was just
zarabee,
capnoblivious,
chrisbarnes and us. A few other people came in occasionally. We got merrily drunk and spent a lot of time laughing. I also discovered that I haven’t lost my knack with my fingernails.
Things learned:
1) There are lots of clothing shops but very few newsagents on Bridge Rd.
2) It’s difficult to resist trying to corrupt capnoblivious.
Day 4
Spent the morning shopping in Brunswick Rd. Bought a leather mask and jewellery. Also some books – Tom of Finlandia and Japanese Erotic prints. The further to corrupt cap’noblivious.
Went to the ‘Worst Ever…’ debate. That was also fun.
Out to dinner that evening with Ruth, Rod and Zara at the Retro Café in Brunswick St. Very enjoyable meal and company.
Things learned:
1) Neil Gaiman is a very engaging speaker
2) It’s difficult to resist trying to corrupt capnoblivious
Day 5
Zara left at an ungodly hour, but we slept for a bit longer. Managed to set off by about 9.30 am.
Then follows long drive. Eventually got home about 8.30 pm.
Much chatting with
politas (who was visiting for a few days) and then the holiday officially declared over.
Things Learned: Nothing really, I already knew it was a long drive.
