Catching up
Sep. 2nd, 2005 02:07 amGot tagged for this a while back, but have been slack – or busy.
1. Total volume of music files on my computer: Which computer? The one I use most has very little music on it. Most of our music is on the jukebox connected to the hifi. The one I play games on probably has more music on it, but I have no idea of the total volume.
2. The last CD I bought was: That would be the CD of my choir’s last concert – Israel in Egypt. Of commercial music, I can’t specifically remember, though I’ve been trying to get hold of Medieaval Baebes latest album (Mirabilis), but it doesn’t appear to be released here yet.
3. The last song I listened to before writing this was: ‘Heavy Horses’ – Jethro Tull
3b. Song playing right now: ‘Dom epais’ – duet from Lakme sung by Leslie Garrett (singing both parts die to the wonders of modern technology)
4. Five songs or albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me: This one is very hard. These can change a lot, but I’ll have a go.
(i) Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ – I play this a lot when I’m feeling very strong, sad emotions – it both resonates and soothes. It’s still managed to avoid any negative connotations, so I play it at other times as well – just not as loudly.
(ii) Tallis’ ‘Spem in alium’ – The sheer beauty and complexity just turns me to a very melted thing.
(iii) Einhorn’s ‘Voices of Light’ which is about Joan of Arc. It’s a modern piece with an early music feel. Not only is it one of my favorite pieces, but Styvyn and I bonded over it during his first visit.
(iv) Deadly Nightshades’ ‘Real Face’ album. This album just grew and grew on me. Would like to get more of their stuff, but can’t find any.
(v) Medieaval Baebes – ‘Salva Nos’ album. All of it but particularly their version of ‘Adam lay ybounden’.
Ask me tomorrow and the list may be slightly different.
