It's nearly a week since I started the antibiotics. I've improved - my voice doesn't always sound like gravel and my throat isn't sandpaper and coughing doesn't feel like razorblades inside my trachea - BUT I've still got a nasty rasping cough and wheezy sounds in the chest at the end of each breath. So I went to the doctor again - especially as I was near the end of the course of antibiotics and didn't think they'd quite done the job. This didn't seem good either for me or for the avoidance of resistant buglies.

Doctor listened to my chest for one cough and one 'ordinary' breath and immediately gave me a prescription for a stronger antibiotic. Here's hoping this works.

I am at work today. Felt like I should as I went to Canberra over the weekend, but now I'm fading a bit and struggling to stay awake.

Yikes! Sorry to hear you're still suffering, even after one round of antibiotics. And the harder stuff tends to be tough on the system and makes one feel pretty under the weather in and of itself. Fingers crossed it does the trick swiftly. Take care.

Well, the first doctor gave me the lowest dose antibiotic. This one's a higher dose of the same one plus another thrown in for good luck. But I've had Augmentin before and it was ok. I have a fairly good tolerance for antibiotics - though I think it is adding to the sleepiness. Hopefully I'll be well by the weekend.

Wow... that's one nasty bug!
Hope this course of ABs sorts it out for you...

So do I. Not good at being sick - though I don't suppose many people are. Anyway, if this course doesn't knock it on the head, I'll go demanding tests and so on.

Everyone, well all those who've had the latest round, are saying how tenacious these latest bugs are. Not good that you need more antibiotics but count yourself lucky you can take them as you know what happened with the Bioxin that I was prescribed last week. 2 tablets and the reaction was such that I had minor panic attacks whenever I spotted the packet. Hopefully, because I'd hung out for 2 weeks before caving in, and was near the end of the worst of the coughing attacks, am hoping that the antiseptic/anti-inflammatory gargle will do the trick. Still having the occasional coughing attacks and desperately need sleep. Am hoping that this reaction was just for Bioxin! Nasty and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Here's hoping we're all better soon :) Thanks for the advice the other day - turned out to be the same as the doctor's!

Ah, I got amoxycillin - which I know I'm ok with (not that he asked). The new one is Augmentin Duo Forte which is also amoxycillin - at a higher dose - plus potassium clavalunate. I've had Augmentin before as well, so also ok. And I am noticeably better today!
