and this won't really be one either. I'm heading down to Canberra this afternoon and will be Internet deprived for most of a week.

So, in summary of the last couple of months, I've:
- edited 2 issues of the Physicist (one was late, the other had to come out early because of Christmas)
- produced the Newsletter of the local SCA group
- produced the programme for the choir concert (and very pretty it was, they gave me money to give it a glossy cover.)
- rehearsed for and performed in said concert (it had both serious and 'fun' items. I was in most of the small group items, so extra rehearsals)
- helped run a Heraldic Tourney and feast for the local SCA group
- was on a jury (an interesting experience and the case wasn't harrowing or anything, so no trauma)
- normal social and work stuff

Now I'm giving myself a holiday before the madness starts again next year!

Have a happy festive season, everyone!

Somehow I've never been called for jury duty in Australia. It seems everyone else gets called for it and they hate it, but I think it would be interesting. Oddly enough, the Americans have called me for dury duty. I had to send them a 'what on earth are you talking about—I'm not even a citizen here!' letter to make them go away.

It was interesting. I certainly didn't hate it. What I hated was the uncertainty after you are first called. Will you actually end up on a jury? Because you don't know this, or how long thecase will take if you do end up on a jury, you can't do much in the way of forward planning - especially not of work stuff. How can you take on another task that has strict deadlines if you don't know that you'll be able to meet them?

Also, if your employer is not nice about it (mine is very nice) then you can be seriously out of pocket. They pay you , but the rate is abysmal.

The experience itself was interesting and quite heartening. I was slightly surprised that most of the people on the jury were able to put aside their personal opinions and just look at the actual evidence presented.
